We're delighted to welcome Carina Envoldsen-Harris to Slipstitch to teach a double bill of darning classes!
This class focuses on Swiss darning, used for stocking stitch/stockinette knitted garments. This darning method can be used for visible darning but is also the perfect option for making invisible darns in your knitted garments.
The class is suitable for beginners but if you have some knitting experience that will be a help in understanding how the darn works.
Materials needed:
- garment to darn - either a holey garment or a knitted swatch, the 'chunkier' the better
- yarn, thickness should match the knitwear (the colour can either match or contrast the knitted item)
- six stranded embroidery thread (half a skein in a random colour is fine)
- embroidery scissors
- darning needles or large tapestry needles
- darning mushroom (you can also use a small jar if you don't have a darning mushroom)
- hair elastic (optional)
You can order a darning mushroom and darning needles with your ticket. We'll have plenty of spare yarn available on the day but do bring any yarn or threads you'd like to use.
